First time I went to this place was after prom my senior year, so definitely a lot has changed since then! I recently ate here earlier this month and I'm impressed with their updated menu and specials. I feel like they stepped up their game. It is definitely a fusion of applebees, ihop, and a bakery all in one! So I'm a dork and love the traditional breakfast of eggs, toast, hashbrowns, and bacon. I order it every where I go, cuz....#1 it's my favorite...and #2 it's fun to compare. This placed switched it up on me and had a dish called "Eggs in a Hole" for $4. I read the ingredients and to my surprise it was my traditional breakfast but with a twist! They cut out a hole in the middle of the toast and have the sunny side egg nestled in it! GENIUS! I love how they innovated something I've never seen before, nor have I thought of doing! My eggs were perfect (I always order over easy eggs and they got it right...lol I'm a big critic when it comes to eggs), the toast was buttered perfectly, bacon was crunchy, and the hashbrowns was delish! I was so impressed that this week during our below zero temps, I braved the cold and got 5 carryout boxes of eggs in a hole for my family. If you don't like hash browns, they have an alternative dish called "Fabulous Five" and it has eggs, pancakes, and meat (I'm not sure why they called it this, cuz there's two of each ingredient). I am definitely what you call a breakfast enthusiast, so I give this place 4 stars not only cuz of it's creativity but the prices are a steal! The specials range from $4 to $8 meals. The $8 meals are huge and definitely worth every penny. My grandpa got the huge dish of fried cod, fried shrimp, and fries all for $8, great value! I will definitely be coming back here. I was not impressed with it during high school, but that was literally 6 years ago, so Perkins stepped it up. I haven't ate their dessert recently, but I ate perkin's pies growing up and the fact that you are greated by a bakery when you step inside makes it feel very homey and got that midwestern welcome to it. Love it! Happy Eating!

The food was mediocre in quality for what i paid. The atmosphere wouldnt have been bad except the fact that it was extremely hot in the building. So hot in fact that the waitresses were taking regular breaks to stand outside and cool off. After a 40 minute wait we finally got our food, hoping for something great i was highly disappointed. With the wait for the food and the bad quality of the foos the manager offered us free slives of pie. I would say this was the only upside of my trip here. I may not be visiting this spicifc Perkins again.

It's a Perkins. If you were expecting the French Laundry then take your hand and slap your self for being dumb. After a day that started in Milwaukee at 4:45AM and ended with a swap butt three hour Royals baseball game I needed some food not named fast food. I ordered a spinach salad with a baked potato. Some of the spinach was wilted and my potato was a bit dry but it was okay. Perkins Okay. Perk-kay. Were there a few smokers hacks being belted out by fellow diners, yes. Did our waitress have non-hipster forearm tattoos, yes. Was the bathroom last cleaned in 1984, yes. Was the bill for two around $20, yes. No further questions your honor.

Had breakfast alone there while on a week vacation. I took some photos and tweeted and got a response on twitter which was nice. Was a pleasant experience. Service was good. Would go again.

I'm conflicted about my review of this restaurant. On one hand the service is really slow and mostly unattentive, on the other the food is decent, and on the third, the pie is amazing! - Slow Service. Really, really.... really slow service. This is a place to go if you have nothing else going on in your life and time has no meaning. - This Perkins needs a renovation. Everything is a bit dated. This is not the place to go on a first date. - Drinking water is not recommended to even prisoners on death row. I do wish they would buy a water filter as I can taste the metal the water flowed through. Seriously, don't drink the water. - I must say the the food is quite good. I ordered the turkey supper and found everything to my liking. Served hot and the order was done correctly. - Their pies and deserts make the place. I've always enjoyed the pies throughout the years, and they have never let me down. - Fridays are 'free pie with your meal' day!!! Woot!!! - The muffins are a treat. Well made and delicious! - As for my poor rating. Despite the good food and deserts. I get really frustrated when a restaurant is understaffed or the staff is unmotivated to wait tables. I'm very busy and I tip and pay more for places which hustle. This place has no hustle. And for that I must recommend to everyone to not go here unless your schedule is completely freed up... because you are going to be here a while.

Back when I was in college, we went to the Perkins in Jonesboro, AR for late-night hangouts and such. Fast-forward to the present, when it was 4am and I wanted some breakfast. Perkins was open. The place looked like it had seen better days, but what place doesn't at 4am? The server was a gal who had been there for years and absolutely loved what she did, so that was a plus. On top of that, she was pretty pleasant to the young folks who were hanging out post-bar. The food was... what you'd expect at 4am. A step above Waffle House, a step below IHOP. Take that for what you will. I mean, it was a decent meal, but probably not somewhere I'd go outside of 4am.

The hubby wanted a quick breakfast so we stopped in here... Service- although we 3 different servers come to our table at some point during our meal, they were attentive and courteous. Food- in my opinion, the food lacks so much...flavor, consistency, appeal. But, I didn't expect a spectacular meal here either. If you want a place that is quick, friendly and a ho-hum breakfast this is your place.

I had noticed a couple of not-so-great reviews at this restaurant near my home, so I scrambled on over to investigate. After doing my part for the public, eating dozens of meals here just so you, dear Yelper could find out what's going on with Perkins on N. Oak, I'm prepared to share my impressions. First, the restaurant and service has improved in the last couple of years. There was a dark day years ago when Perkins was somewhat abysmal. Today, the decor is still dated, and the fixtures have obvious wear. They are still open 24 hours, which is great, and they have enough seating and parking that waiting for a table is rare. But the secret formula for restaurants is something like FOOD*SERVICE/PRICE. I Don't know the whole formula because it's a secret. Prices are reasonable, I've eaten a big meal with a drink for eleven dollars, which is close to fast food prices. They have a senior menu for hipsters over 55 which is a good thing. They have lots of promotions you can get by signing up for their e-club. Their servers are almost always attentive and friendly, and are observant about things like drink refills and condiments. I hate servers who act like they've never eaten in a restaurant, but most of those ilk don't work at Perkins. I eat breakfast here often, (at all hours), and find their breakfast options of fluffy pancakes, PERFECTLY cooked bacon, scrambled eggs that aren't dried out, tasty link sausage, and tasty eggs Benedict, and huge flavorful omelets better than the fare at iHop or WH. They have a similarly tasty selection of dinner entrees--sandwiches, soups, turkey and fish. Oh, and their baked goods--pie, muffins, cookies are the best. I especially like the French Silk pie or the blueberry muffin! I've stopped here to pick up muffins to take to work and always get rave reviews. Perkins is an old restaurant that ideally would get a face-lift, but considering how many Perkins restaurants have closed across the country, I think we're lucky to have his one. So give it a try, whether at traditional mealtime or when you are swinging through Gladstone at 3AM. I hope you like it as much as I do.

On Sept. 8, 2014 I found the restaurant had good quick service. Our Ruben sandwiches were out in about 10 minutes, just as we finished our salads. The Reubens were very delicious, with the best sauerkraut I ever tasted! If your taste is equal to mine you'll agree should you try one.

This Perkins is 24 hours, which is a MAJOR plus on its behalf. The food is average. It is about what you would expect from competing diners. I have always gotten my food hot and made correctly to order, however, which is nice. I think they are lacking in drink selections - i.e. specialty coffees, shakes, sodas, etc. I know other places that rotate special drinks on the menu and I have always liked that option. The Perkins bakery has great cookies and muffins, but their pies are only so-so. I miss a no longer open (we won't mention the name) competing restaurant's pies that are only available at grocery stores. If you want a good pie, opt for the grocery store version of that competitor's pies. For food, go for the "country" or "home cooked" style meals. The breakfast is good, and the sandwiches are okay. I would not put their steak or seafood at the top of my list.

Imagine a 24hr restaurant with breakfast like Denny's and IHOP, but better, with a twist of either Baker's Square or Marie Callendar's bakery side. Food: Variety is on the menu. Food tasted great. I enjoyed how the Country Cookin Benedict order came with French Toast. Most breakfast places you cannot have french toast as a side, other than regular toast or biscuit. Chicken Florentine Pasta used corkscrew pasta which is different but not real creamy and cheesy but just right. Service: given it was 1am, there was only one server who was attentive to us and all the other tables, offered to refill water and checked on us regarding the food. She was great to juggle all the tables and still be a cashier being the only outside employee, though she mentioned there was one cook in the back. Location: The highway sign makes it look like the restaurant is right off the freeway I would think within a light or 2, but don't be surprised when you have to exit and go about 1.9miles down until you see the Perkins on the left side. Bakery: I thought about buying a slice of pie but decided on getting the whole pie since 6 slices make a whole pie for them. Tip: if you can finish all 6 big slices buy the whole pie you will save more. If you can only finish a slice or want a tasting not knowing how the pie will taste, don't buy the whole pie. I hoped to enjoy the whole pie but should've stuck to what I knew I liked before venturing out on a limb.

We used to eat at this Perkins every Sunday back in the 70's. Then something happened and it got bad quickly. We crossed it off our list for many years. The food was poorly prepared, service was awful and the place smelled rank. Fast forward 25 years and things have improved. Not a GREAT place to eat, but much better than before. The servers are pleasant and we've never had an order messed up. Coffee is placed in a carafe so you don't have to wait for someone to circulate with a pot. Decor is awful and there is always a strong odor of natural gas in the entryway. The restrooms sometimes have a sewer stench coming from the drains. Price is average and the portion are generous. A diner that has seen better days, but it's better than Mickey D's next door.

Well, this isn't going to be good. Sorry. My Mom was in town and chose to go to Perkins for Sunday brunch instead of, oh, I don't know....ANYWHERE ELSE. We waited a very long time for a table which I knew we would because it was Sunday afternoon. The waiting area was filled with Grandparents and little kids. Don't worry too much. I don't think this is always a red flag. In this case it was. My son ordered a grilled cheese. He had been talking about a grilled cheese sandwich for days and he finally got one. He said his appetite for it wasn't satisfied and I make a much better one at home. He's a sweet boy and nearly always right. My 2 year old ate 4 1/2 breakfast sausages! I let him because the french toast looked like frozen from a box. Poor kid. I don't know what possessed me, but I ordered the eggs benedict. I have had eggs benedict at several great local places and loved it. It's my favorite egg dish. Still, it's easy to get it wrong and Perkins did. The eggs were fried instead of poached. (I'll pause so you can cringe). The English muffins were toasted so hard I had to saw them with the butter knife and the hollandaise was not house made. Do I get my "Duh! Award" now?? If my Mom ever wants to go out for a late breakfast/brunch again I will be prepared with at least 5 other better choices to offer her. I would have much rather gone to an IHOP! My baby could have screamed with no one staring and I could have had better coffee and fluffy pancakes. If you can avoid Perkins, please do.

Where's the 0? Imagine, if you will, the most disgusting place you could find yourself eating a meal. Now multiply it by 50. Slightly hungover and craving a Perkin's breakfast to remind us of our youth, we went on the hunt for one. Not an easy endeavor in this town. The Perkin's I used to go years ago have all closed (I-35 & 87th, Shawnee Mission Parkway, Olathe...). But a quick check of the iPhone and we stumbled our way up to N. Oak. Holy shit. This place is a dump. It was not busy, but they seated us in smoking (smoking!) anyway. I didn't know you could still smoke in restaurants. We were surrounded by octogenarians who looked like they'd been sitting there for 20 years smoking and drinking coffee. Everyone was surly. That's ok, I was a little surly, too. But, whatever! my tummy was grumbling and I was craving a belgian waffle smothered in strawberries and whipped cream! There was dried food stuck to the table, the silverware, our water glasses. Mine even had some nice lipstick at the top. Whatever! Belgian waffle please! While waiting, we noticed that half the ceiling was about to cave in from water damage...it was just drooping there. Unnoticed by anyone who cared. Whatever! You get it, right? I was ready to eat my own hand. But when my waffle came out, I wanted to sob. There were about 3 strawberries on the top with a tablespoon of whipped cream. The waitress asked if we wanted anything else and I asked for more strawberries. They never came. And I'll never be back.

I used to love Perkins as a kid but this one isn't good. The service, when you cab get it, is slow. The waitress we had last time told us her hatred of her job and the woes of her life...all I wanted was food and coffee not a sappy story. It smells like raw sewage some times when you walk in (I walked out last time I was going to eat there for that reason). The eggs are runny, the bacon undercooked. All in all it's horrible!
